NELL BROOKER-CELEBRANT
About

What you seek is seeking you ~ Rumi
I embarked on my self-healing adventure with the Usui Reiki Network in 1999 and established the Heart Centre East Midlands in 2010 after relocating to Derbyshire.
I began by facilitating meditation for a community group. I studied New Thought (Metaphysics) and, with the Level 4 award in teaching, delivered the Louise Hay Philosophy and meditation as a sessional tutor for adult education and adults with additional needs. I continued training in holistic modalities and created affirmative bodywork treatments for my clients.

My five years with Derbyshire Playback Theatre Company was key to realising the importance of listening to peoples' stories and giving space for storytelling. I witnessed the transformative power of this shared experience - something our ancestors did naturally.
I was fortunate to serve as firekeeper for a Temazcal sweat lodge for six years, during which time I learnt how to work with the elements, as well as the important practicalities of health and safety and keeping the fire alight in all weathers! I facilitated the transformative Inner Dance process and my own Visualised Healing Journey sound bath meditations. Other ceremonies evolved from my practice: Embracing the Goddess Within; Ceremony of Self, fire ceremonies and communing with the elements and land.

During this time I worked in Adult Social Care and the Registration Service conducting and registering weddings. I was drawn to officiate funerals and gained the NOCN Level 3 Diploma in Funeral Celebrancy with Civil Ceremonies in 2020. I wanted to learn more about the ancient origins of ceremony and was given the opportunity to train in-depth with Dawn Kinsella, Priestess of Avalon, and her team at the prestigious Sacred Celebrants Academy in 2021. The IPHM Sacred Celebrant certificate qualifies me to conduct a range of ceremonies based in Celtic and Pagan rites.
I've now realised the fullness of my vocation as an Independent Celebrant and space-holder for transitions.
I love working with the transformative and healing power of ritual and find my work deeply fulfilling. I'm in a privileged position as a story-keeper - honouring people by facilitating the telling of their story. I listen to my clients and collaborate with them to create bespoke ceremonies. I enjoy conducting outdoors and supporting people to find affordable and environmentally-friendly options. I recognise my place as part of nature and work respectfully with the elements and 'leave no trace' on the land.
I visit community groups to deliver a talk and 'Death Café' where I share information and ideas relating to funerals, often accompanied by a local Funeral Director. My personal interests are broad including: music, drumming, dance, horses, motorbikes and walking in the beautiful Peak District. In March 2023 I graduated as a Priestess of New Earth to support the next leg of my journey.
Whether a motorcycle hearse at a funeral or djembe drummers at an identity ceremony, our interests and passions can be reflected in our own ceremonies.
